{"id":62,"date":"2015-05-09T09:22:54","date_gmt":"2015-05-09T08:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.reasignals.net\/wordpress\/?p=62"},"modified":"2015-05-10T16:13:36","modified_gmt":"2015-05-10T15:13:36","slug":"bulletin-9th-may-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reasignals.net\/wordpress\/bulletin-9th-may-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Bulletin: 9th May 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A link to the 60 M Net recording is below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On Net today:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>G3RE &#8211; Mike in Northampton<\/p>\n<p>G4CMG &#8211; Tom in Hindhead.<\/p>\n<p>G3WOV &#8211; Gordon in Nafferton<\/p>\n<p>G3PWK &#8211; Jack in Harrogate<\/p>\n<p>G3XWD &#8211; Derek in Hinkley<\/p>\n<p>Calling in on 60M Bruce, G0DMB in Leicester.<\/p>\n<p>Report by G4IYK &#8211; Stu in Gravesend.<\/p>\n<p>My experiment with the Hack Green Software defined Radio continues (HGR) continues.<\/p>\n<p>I discovered two novel features: \u00a0You can see people logged in on screen and tuned in on frequency which is handy. \u00a0But also you can give yourself a report:).<\/p>\n<p><strong>80M &#8211; 0730 &#8211; 0800 Local.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1st Over. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After hearing mike call and others joining I opened up using the Kenwood TS570D, (Dipole and 60Watts). \u00a0Signals were fairly well under the noise from everyone on the receiver. \u00a0The noise was wavering between S7 and S9 on the S Meter. \u00a0Signal reports were quite mediocre at this point and I was straining to hear with headsets.<\/p>\n<p>Regrettably I missed the opportunity to record the session, but subsequent to switching\u00a0over to HGR, all signals were 5 and 9 Plus for the duration of the session up until 0800 when we changed frequency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Noise vs Conditions &#8211; Listening Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I realised, listening to the quality of signals coming via Hack Green and reports others were giving that, where we were experiencing\u00a0problems with &#8220;band conditions&#8221;, in the main signals were pretty well consistent throughout using the HGR which is located\u00a0the Cheshire countryside and fairly noise free.<\/p>\n<p>The conclusion I drew from this was that Urban Noise Level is the\u00a0cause of poor listening experience and not band conditions. \u00a0This experience occurs when\u00a0conditions are actually quite reasonable, (although checking the forecast, 80m conditions were to be poor this particular morning).<\/p>\n<p>My experience was &#8220;Armchair Copy&#8221; i.e. no headset necessary. \u00a0Actually I was listening to the audio from HGR through\u00a0the clansman headset sonovalve so I could hear both receivers.<\/p>\n<p>This has implications for shortwave listeners and everyone trying to use local equipment with nearby noise sources. \u00a0Jack, Spike and Gordon are experimenting with local noise filters. \u00a0It should be interesting to compare results.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Net Content<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jack reported receiving a lot of political SPAM Mail and related his experiences with vibratory power supplies from various sources.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0was relating my experience with a neighbour who I caught on camera severing the end of my dipole. \u00a0I will post the video when I am sure it won&#8217;t prejudice my case but he now has a criminal record. \u00a0(Same guy who I caught off camera a few years ago when the police failed to act.)<\/p>\n<p>I mentioned\u00a0Alan M3XREs exploits. \u00a0Gordon \u00a0mentioned his exploits with HGR and some fun working Cyprus and various DX during the Royal Signals Contest. \u00a0Tom is restoring his Racal Sets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>60 Meters &#8211; 0800 to 0830 Local. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was a bit noisier on 60M but it was good to Hear Derek at reasonable strength where he reports problems with his 80m Antenna to resolve. \u00a0Using My\u00a0PRC 320 was as difficult to hear anyone as the 570 but I got some good reports using the 200W linear and auto atu. \u00a0You can hear the complete session in the link below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dl.dropboxusercontent.com\/u\/71666290\/RENetAudio\/websdr_recording_2015-05-09T07-30-31Z_5371.5kHz.wav\" target=\"_blank\">60M Net Audio<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A link to the 60 M Net recording is below.
