80 and 60 Meter Net<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>G3RE<\/strong> Tom (G4CMG)<\/p>\n<p>Gordon, G3WOV. \u00a0Jack, G3PWK\u00a0and me, G4IYK.<\/p>\n<p>Our guest was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qrz.com\/db\/m0zae\" target=\"_blank\">M0ZAE<\/a> &#8211; Henry from Bedford who belongs to the RAF ARS and RN ARS.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Radio Conditions. \u00a0<\/strong>60 Meters slightly better than 80 Meters. \u00a0The net commenced on 80M &#8211; where signals were poor to average via the direct route. \u00a0Here in Gravesend, noise levels were defeating my local receiver but at\u00a0Hack Green (in Cheshire) all stations were being received 59+ with good\u00a0quality all round. \u00a0(See link at bottom of the page). \u00a0I dispensed with Hack Green for most of the net after 8AM when we changed over\u00a0to 60M as signal quality was much higher all round on the local receiver.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RSGB HF Noise Measurement Campaign<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A report on page 42 of <a href=\"https:\/\/thersgb.org\/members\/publications\/radcom\/2015\/september\/#42\" target=\"_blank\">Radcom<\/a> September 2015, Vol. 91, presents an interim view of the results of the monitoring activity to determine average radio noise levels in UK. \u00a0A\u00a0group of stations are studying the NOISE levels in various sites with a view to a full report next year and Gwynn Williams, G4FKH presents some data and a view of the approach. \u00a0It will be interesting to map our own experiences against these results but I can already see areas where the experiences concurr.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/technical\/propagation\/noise-floor-study\/hf-noise-monitoring-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\">More background Here<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Easy Listening,\u00a0the\u00a0Hack Green Experience and Windows TEN<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As most of us were using Hack Green SDR to get over local noise, part of my experience this week was using the new Edge Browser which came with Windows TEN\u00a0on the Hack Green Site. \u00a0I wanted to see how it performed in terms of Audio. \u00a0(it did well). \u00a0During this test I set up a recording which usually the site performs very well and this downloads OK in Google Chrome when we finish the net. \u00a0Using Edge I stopped the recording expecting to be offered a download link. \u00a0None. \u00a0Recording lost.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Windows TEN\u00a0Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Various mixed results. \u00a0\u00a0Most people On Net reported issues with Windows TEN\u00a0but mixed results. \u00a0For me, it works but I am cynical about its commercial advantage and why it was free &#8211; and I have some reservations about what was changed and how various people will adapt to it.<\/p>\n<p>I noticed it didn&#8217;t help us when they removed various features\u00a0off the Windows Seven Start\u00a0Button in order to make room for stuff that will earn Microsoft\u00a0money, resulting in the features we were use to seeing being hidden. \u00a0Now, in Windows TEN to find <em>devices and printers<\/em>\u00a0you have to right click the start button, \u00a0&#8211;\u00a0choose control panel and run it there before you can adjust the printer for example. \u00a0In due course it will be easier to put this back where it came from &#8211; by right clicking it and pinning it to the start menu but the point is most people who make the change\u00a0will have some sort of learning curve and reconfiguring experiences to regain control of Windows.
